Fur - the ultimate ignorance & cruelty

01/16/2009
Joanna @ 1:47 pm
Since I am a huge animal activist and Humane Society of America and PeTA supporter I want to speak out against FUR. Over the christmas holidays I spent time in Vail to snowboard and  relax with the family …
I couldnt believe how many women were wearing fur coats! It drives me crazy. And we women are supposed to be the gentle, sensitive gender??!@#$%
A lot of the people who wear fur must live in the land of Cool Aid where ignorance rules… They avoid the truth about how  a large part of the fur industry is run. And then there are those who know and still wear fur  -  obviously just heartless human beings that just dont care. Well, karma is a bitch….I hope they are aware…..
Many of the “fur-wearing species” actually  think that they look sexy and rich wearing a dead animal on their shoulders. In reality the only people that would wear fur are those with very low self esteem and major insecurities -  that even includes famous music stars that obviously need constant attention or those that have no clue about what pain these poor angels go through.
The truth is that often the animal is skinned alive and then bleeds to death. Recently european authorities discoverd a fur shipment from far East that turned out to be cats and dogs fur - ever seen a video how they are piled up in cages and skinned alive? It ll cause you sleepness nights……But when one buys a fur coat, I guess all that matters is “look at me” and not ” who and what suffered the most unimaginable cruelty for this?”.
It’s beyond disgusting and dispeakable that in 2009 this still is going on.Most of this goes on in china and south korea and that is why I try not to buy products from those countries but almost everything is manufactored there, so it’s not easy to avoid it.
In any event: for those that have a heart or even just common sense, please spread awareness to your friends and as many people as you can.
And I encourage you to donate to organizations that fight animal cruelty worldwide….
like WSAP (www.wspa-international.org)
Just take a few minutes to read through the websites and get an idea of how much all our help is needed.

  2. I read your post and viewed your video on the subject of fur. I really can’t understand the reason that everybody has for wearing real fur. I mean the Inuit and the Sami ended up wearing it as a by-product of their meals. Today most people don’t trap for a living so there is no real reason for wearing real fur. On top of that, why would anyone want to be caught dead in “farmed” fur? The very idea is repulsive. Someone should start a campaign telling people not to wear a home for pests. I’m sure insects thrive in real fur.

  6. There we have the usual suspects who swim in millions and do not even feel the need to switch on their sensitivity chip (let’s not even entertain the idea they still believe they have a role model function anymore).
    Yes, ignorance is bliss….and WE are guilty of buying their products;
by doing so we are rewarding them for wearing a 20.000 dollar fur coat and the animal’s suffering that comes with it…

Obviously some highrollers find it more appealing to flaunt a 20.000 dollar cruelty instead of wearing wool and acrylics like the rest of us . One has to stick out, right …..regardless of bad taste and bad karma. Thankfullly karma has a long breath.

  7. AAARRGH! You’re SO beautiful!!! How is it even possible for human genes to manifeste into such a perfect creation?
And on top of it, you care about animals!
I had you on top of my wish list this christmas! Didn’t get you, though :( I hope santa will be more coorperative next year.

Regarding fur, you’re right. It’s absurd that people can be so ignorant, considering we live in a modern world with high educational rate etc.
I am member of WSPA and hope more people will chose to support the various animal care groups that - luckily - do exist.

    Take all :)

  8. i definitely agree asia. i have been in vail, breckenridge, beaver creek, and aspen many times and i have contemplated the decisions that these, as you says, “species” have made to wear these slaughtered animal’s hides on their backs, shoulders, and heads. i think its a matter of a status symbol and the price tag that comes with it. if they really wanted to show off their status of being wealthy and having no limits on money and no limits on the sake of other living beings of this planets, go buy everybody a drink at the bar! maybe then they’ll be more appreciated for your graciousness instead of hated for their lack of compassion.

  9. So glad you guys are with me on this. And faux fur looks so real - there is no excuse for real fur anymore.
When I did my STUFF shoot I refused to wear real fur and the stylist found great fake fur - looked fantastic!

Its rediculous and harmful to the animals and the enviroment. What kind of sick people would enjoy harming these poor living animals?

  20. Fur is renewable, does not use petroleum products as microfiber products do, lasts a lifetime if properly cared for, and is the warmest coat that does not allow wind or cold through. I have one lamb coat that my Mom got me when I was 24, and it is still in use today. I’d like to know all you people that won’t wear fur, do you wear leather, do you eat meat, did you get the vaccines that require chicken eggs for the formulas? I bet there are a lot of hypocrites out there… And for her latest Peta use of her body to tell people to adopt not buy their pets, shame on her. Peta is a sexist organization, among other things. The dogs in shelters for the most part HAD a home. They are not there due to overpopulation. If shelters and Humane Societies helped owners keep the pets in their homes, by providing training lessons, food if the family can no longer afford it, vet care if the family can no longer afford it, etc., there would be a lot less pets being dumped in shelters. A huge reason for pets being dumped is inconstinence; there are cheap meds for that! HSUS should part with some of those millions to actually help out. Purebreds are predictable, you know how they will look, what health risks to watch for, and the temperament to expect. Mixed breeds are huge unknowns, and can have ALL the genetic diseases and conditions from myriad breeds. They are not healthier. Vets treat more mixed breeds than purebreds. If predictability doesn’t matter, please adopt. But if you want to retain the right to choose the dog that will become a part of your household for the rest of its life, buy from a responsible breeder. Responsible breeders will stay with you for advice and help for the life of that animal. The breeders I have bought from have become good life-long friends. And if for some reason I can’t keep them, these breeders will take back my dogs. The lies and propaganda that these Animal Rights organizations spew are beyond belief. I doubt my comment will be allowed to stay on this blog, let’s see if Joanna has the balls to allow a dissenting opinion…

  21. Joanna, I’m with you on no fur … I’ve never worn it, never will, but PETA (and HSUS) is not pro-animal, they are NO-Animal. Please investigate these alleged “charities” to see just where the money you raise for them goes … very little to animals for sure. I am a former card-carrying PETA member myself from years and years ago when they were what they claim to be, but now they are over the edge.
